OAK HOUSE

The site is located in a densely vegetated area, which was the client’s attraction to the property as well as the inspiration for the design. The house is designed to be environmentally sustainable in a subtropical climate. Each room is transparent in order to allow for uninterrupted views to the outdoors, bring in plenty of sunlight, and to promote natural airflow. The rooms, when opened, transform into larger spaces incorporating adjacent exterior spaces. The house is environmentally conscious taking advantage of the natural opportunities of the site as well as recent technological advances. The use of architectural elements such as porches, terraces, breezeways, and overhangs recalls a period of Florida regional architecture where buildings were more symbiotic with their environment. It was important for the project to meet the requirements of LEED certification in order to leave a smaller carbon footprint on our environment.
